Spencer Butte Again?

I think this is my new favorite hiking spot. Ok, so it's the only one trail I've tried so far. But the views are really good! This time off of Williamette...

More Spencer Butte Pics

The view was already really nice today but it should be really impressive on a clear day.

Spencer Butte: Made it to the top!

There's a 360 degree view from the top. Takes about 45 min to get to the top.

Sunday Hike

After I got back from my drive I took a break and decided to go out again, this time for a hike. I went part way up the Ridgeline trail (off of Foxhollow) .

I came to a "Y" and decided to go left, away from the top of Spencer Butte because it was getting late and I wasn't sure if I had enough time to get up and back before it got dark. Thru the trees (below) I could see the edge of the mountain.

So I went off the trail and found a great view at the edge.

Weekend Driving: Breaking in the Lotus

I drove a few hundred miles this weekend. It's helping me break in my new Lotus. Not really; I just like driving. I went West on Friday to Florence. Nice drive. A few twisty roads. I went kinda East on Saturday and ended up at a park off of HWY 58.

I got out and walked down one of the trails and came upon a river. It reminded me of the creek out back behind the barn in Healdsburg. I want to come back in the Summer when it's hot and go in it.

Rainbow!

I've noticed rainbows right outside my window a couple times.
I think they re-occur in that spot often!

The view from up my street.

Part of Ridgeline Train about a mile from my house.

My Neighborhood

Comcast Phone Support...

Let me transfer you. (Smile).

No!!!!!!!!

I signed up for high speed internet over the internet, before I moved here. www.comcastoffers.com had a good deal (I thought). 19.99 for 6 months and a free modem after rebate. Not yet at least. I got the modem and I got the service but I'm being billed for a $3 modem rental even though I didn't get the modem from them. And I already paid for it and haven't got the rebate yet. What kind of bad tracking system do they have that they don't know if they sent me a modem or not?

So I figured I'd just call and have them take it off my bill right. Wrong. I have to go in to a service center, show them my bill and my invoice from the modem, etc. That's after I spent 45 min on the phone. Most of which I was on hold or getting cut off.

It started out fine. I called, when thru their phone menu, got a person, explained my problem. That's when it started. "Let me transfer you," she said. Like it would be so simple. So she "transfers" me and I end up on hold again for an extended period of time, abruptly ending when I'm cut off and told my call has been dropped and I need to call back. So I do. I call back, go thru the phone menu again. This time I choose the sales option cause that's where the last girl said I was being transferred to. So I'm on hold waiting for someone to answer and suddenly the music goes off I hear a few beeps and, "Hello?" The voice of an 8 yr old girl is on the other end. What? "Um, yeah, is this comcast?" "Hello?", she says again. "Yeah, this isn't comcast is it?" "No," she says. "Sorry," click... Huh?

And I dial again. By this time the music their playing is sooooooooooo annoying. And they have these recordings that keep repeating themselves. But you can't mute them or ignore them cause at any moment your "real person" could answer. The one you've been waiting for, the one that can acutally help you. So I'm on my way thru the menu again. Anticipating the question and the number to push. It's going well and then - oops! Pushed the wrong button. How do I go back in the menu? I'll try *. That works on my cell phone. Nope I guess not. I push a few more buttons frantically and then here an automated voice come on telling me it was transferring me to a customer service agent and there would be an approx. 5 minute wait. Lovely. I don't even know if I'm going to the right department now. So I end up with someone in "Video" and explain my problem and he says no problem, he can transfer me. Great! Perfect. I've had such great luck with transfers. Please, by all means. Go right ahead.

More on hold music. This time not so bad. Some oriental sounding, somewhat soothing stuff. All good except for the annoying girl who keeps interrupting the music to tell me how to download something of their website. Please. Shut. Up. I don't want to download your program. And if I did I wouldn't need to hear about it 4 times. It just gets annoying.

Why can't they have options for waiting in silence. Ok, so then you might not know if you've been cut off. But how about choose your own music. Or listen to their offers but not the same damn ones over and over till you hate whatever their offering. Maybe they should play these recordings to terrorists that they're trying to get information out of. After a while they'd just give it all up, just so they would stop playing the recordings.

So this transfer actually worked! I got a person, explained my problem, got put on hold. Then he comes back and tells me that I have to take everything down to my local office. Nice. Why couldn't the first girl have told me that? Why?

Oh well, I guess I have some interesting conversation for the dinner party on Sunday.

Corner of W. 36th and W. 36th?

Dear Eugene, Oregon -

I must say I really like your landscape. All the trees are very impressive. I love the parks and paths to run, walk, hike or bike are excellent. But who thought up your system of roads? I took a short walk down my street today and ended up at a small four way intersection. The signs in one corner said 36th and 36th and the other corner said 38th and Monroe. Very interesting, I do say. But very confusing too. I don't understand your system. Why does one straight road suddenly become another? And yet other roads turn corners and stay the same road? Why must we circle around 270 degrees or more when exiting the freeway? This gets my brain quite confused. A simple exit off to one side would seem sufficient. Is it supposed to be artistic?

Maybe your plan is to confuse anyone who doesn't live here. If they can't find what they want then they'll leave. Or maybe you're plan is to trap people in your maze of streets, leave them dizzy and tired and thus they never leave. Is that it?

I have a feeling you will not tell me but I thought I would ask just in case.
